wtf motorcyclists and bicyclists are allies in the war against cars. Every car driver who switches to a bicycle, motorcycle, or public transit improves all of our experiences.

Every bicyclist who switches to a car makes things worse for anyone riding a bicycle, motorcycle, or public transit.

Nah, fuck motorcyclist. They are the most reckless drivers you see on the road and generate way more noise pollution than cars. Mopeds are fine to move around cities but fuck all the idiots that modify their motorbikes to make as much noise as possible and ride around all day.

    You're not talking about motorcyclists

You're talking about stupid 'Muricans who ride stupid things that are the antithesis of motorcycling

My motorbike is very quiet, and it actually handles well and doesn't impinge on others

Agreed, I don't want to be #notallbikers, but the reckless loud idiots on two wheels are why the statistical death toll is so high. People cite the high fatality and think Bikers are inherently damgerous, but most of us ride safe, connect with the community, and stay hydrated.

For me it's a matter of who should take responsibility for those reckless idiots. Obviously, above all, it should be the government. They should have zero tolerance policy and fight it any way than can. Which they don't do. The accidents and noise is mostly on them. But those idiots are also part of a bigger community. It's not some separate group, there's a lot of overlap. Where motorcyclist gather (all the meetings, weekend rides, bars and so on) you will see the "normal" kind and the loud idiots riding together. If the community is not trying to stop this sociopathic behavior then I'm not willing to make some exceptions and say "those bikers are ok, those bikers are not". I see it simply as a toxic group. Some motorcyclist do dangerous and harmful things and others tolerate it and accept as part of the hobby. I don't mind people commuting on motorbikes because it's convenient but once we get to the "I ride because I like it" group they are all the same to me.

I genuinely feel you could replace "motorcyclists" with "car enthusiast" and it'd be the same sentiment, which implies you dislike a mentality that you've conflated with a group or subject. Which happens, but means you're not seeing the forest for the trees.

100% car enthusiast are the same but people taking their cars to weekend meetups or some illegal races are tiny minority of all drivers. Where I see more extremely loud bikes than cars even though there are way more cars on the roads than motorbikes. I've seen stats form Europe saying that 70% of vehicles exceeding noise limits are motorcycles. I don't know what % of motorcyclists are loud idiots but looking at the roads I can see that it's way more common in this group that among car drivers. I'm sure this can vary by region thought.

    sociopathic behavior

Motorcyclists endangering themselves is entirely different to cars endangering literally everybody.

Motorcycle isn't a hobby, its a mode of transport.

By sociopathic behavior I meat mainly the noise. There's 0 need for most bikes to be as loud as they are. Bikers install loud exhausts because they like it and they don't care about anyone else.

And it's 100% a hobby for many many people. I'm sure it varies by region but were I live there's plenty of mountain roads that fill up with motorbikes every weekend. Stats confirm it, most of motorbike accidents happen during the weekend. Those people are not traveling from point A to point B. They go on weekend rides. And those "fun" rides usually involve excessive speeds and noise. Maybe it's different where you live but this is what I see on roads around me.

Well yeah, in America, the popular perception of motorcycles are toys instead of a valid type of transportation, and so dudes who drive a car to an office job 5 days a week buy a 30,000 dollar Harley to role-play Sons of Anarchy on the weekend. Here everyone from 14 year olds to grandmas ride.

I'm in Europe and it's very similar. Many motorcyclist are cosplaying as bikers or Moto GP racers. Mopeds are different thing, even here.

Scooters/mopeds aren't common in the US because for the price of a new scooter, you can get a used highway capable motorcycle. And the mopeds depreciation slower than the motorcycles so even the used ones are expensive. Meanwhile in asia you can get a new Honda Wave for 800 usd.

For some it is definitely a hobby. It can be both, to different people. Just like bicycling

I mean that's true of cars too. But the people who drive cars as a hobby are such a small population that they're irrelevant to the conversation.

Hell Ill take a 25 year old with a riced up Civic going double the speed limit over the average Suburban Assault Vehicle driver, at least the former are probably paying attention.

    I don't live in US...

Normal motorcyclist like you are part of a bigger group that's full of idiots. Of course this group is not homogeneous but it's also not split perfectly into the idiot and non-idiots parts. It's a spectrum going from people riding calmly on quiet bikes all the way to obnoxious idiots making noise for fun, with weekend joy riders somewhere in the middle. In my opinion, as a whole, the community is very toxic and net negative. It's the most dangerous mode of transportation needlessly consuming lot's of rescue services and healthcare resources. The obnoxious idiots group, even though it's a minority, is big enough to cancel out all the other benefits bikes provide.

Motorcyclists and mopedists don't keep good distance, I've noticed. They tailgate more than any other vehicle. Makes me nervous to touch my brake pedal, I don't want to cause an accident.

Scooch over and let them by, we all must share the road, hopefully they would do the same for you.

Btw, contrary to popular belief, cars have shorter stopping distances than cars so thank you for not brake checking my dumber comrades who do that shit.

I see motorbikes slaloming between cards all the time. Where I'm supposed to scooch over to let them by? They pass cars on left and right side and you don't know what they will do next.

Also, they can simply... not tailgate. I will change lane when possible. They can keep safe distance and wait like a normal person. Riding centimeters behind me is simply stupid.

lol, I'm going the speed limit, so there's absolutely no reason for me to give way to anything other than flashing lights and sirens. There's no room on our roads for two vehicles to pass cleanly on the same lane anyway (no, not even a car and a moped, these aren't wide American roads).

we all must share the road

This argument makes no sense either. We're both on the road already, "sharing" it. Speeding saves you seconds over a surprisingly long distance, maybe minutes over very long distances. I'm not "scooching" so these people can make the road more dangerous for the rest of us. Fuck that.

cars have shorter stopping distances than cars

One of those should be mopeds/motorcycles I imagine?

I’m not “scooching” so these people can make the road more dangerous for the rest of us.

Fuck off you are surrounded by two tons of metal, you are in no danger. It costs you nothing to not be an asshole and not use your 2 tons of metal to block people.

One of those should be mopeds/motorcycles I imagine?

Yes, cars stop faster when ebraking. A hyperbike performing perfectly throwing their body back can stop a bike somewhat shorter, but typically stopping with more than 1g will cause a stoppie.

I'm american, but since moving to vietnam, I have reached enlightenment and understand that all traffic and urban design problems are caused by cars (and/or capitalism).

You fuck off, I have no room on these roads in my city to give way.

    THERE IS NO ROOM.

    And I also have

    NO OBLIGATION

to go out of my way and

    endanger my kids

by suddenly swerving into another lane so a freaking motorbike can pass me because

they want to exceed the speed limit.

That would definitely put me and my kids in danger, and my vehicle. And other travelers in the other lane, which I would be crossing if attempting this. And I'm technically not blocking anyone if I'm going the limit. I bet you're one of these idiots on the road speeding, aren't you.

Your arguments are dumb, because you are making assumptions about my situation, and, also, you are rude, so I have zero interest in talking with you further. 🙂 Please screw off. That's the end of it.

lol, you pompous dum-dum, this isn't about car vs anything. This is about you asking me to do something that I can't do safely, because you can't put yourself in someone else's situation due to lack of empathy.

I usually bike to work. 👍

Kindly fuck off carbrain, you've made it clear you have no problem using your car to block anyone else who also wants to use the road, there's no need for further discussion.

I'm not blocking someone if I'm going the speed limit.

And they can use the road fine. Just drive behind me a few meters back, we're both going in the same direction, nobody is blocking anyone.

You're not too bright, son. Jesus Christ.
