For those who don't know the context:

CW CSAVivek Ramaswamy has leaked an attack ad against his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton, featuring Acton's mother. Acton cut off contact with her mother fifty years ago for siding with her step father, who molested her, against her.

From the CoC emphasis mine:

A content warning must be placed at the beginning of a post title or directly before the following topics or depictions:

  • Violence towards humans or animals including corpses or gore.

Triggering content should be placed inside a spoiler tag. Post images that depict triggering content should be marked NSFW.

The use of NSFW for this content is not just correct, it's enforced. I would have removed it if it hadnt been marked with a CW and NSFW. NSFW isn't just for blurring, it lets people filter out potentially problematic content entirely so they don't even have to deal with the CW. Seeing a constant stream of CW:‌SA, CW:SA,‌ CW:SA can already adversely affect people that had to survive SA and just want to browse in peace. It is possible to hide all NSFW topics which is why everything that needs a CW also needs an NSFW marking. I sometimes use it to filter out everything non-vegan because I just don't wanna deal with thinking about all theremoved and torture that goes into making someones cheese.

That explanation is also for the audience, it sucks that I keep having to remove posts that then stay buried but until Lemmy 1.0 this is how it will be.

Your post is needlessly hostile, this is !slop@hexbear.net not !effort@hexbear.net . A twitter screenshot with (maybe) a two-sentence explanation is how things get posted here. This is a comm for dunking and venting. If you think this should get spread as news then feel free to crosspost in !news@hexbear.net formatted however you wish as long as it fits that comm.

This is your first warning as per the moderation escalation guidelines.

Thanks for replying to my comment. The site rule that you quoted does not match what you said.

The rule that you quoted says "Post images that depict triggering content should be marked NSFW." "image" means image. "depict" means image. "pict" means picture. There is no depiction of sexual assault in the post. There are no pictures of sexual assault on the post.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depiction

Depiction is reference conveyed through pictures. A picture refers to its object through a non-linguistic[citation needed] two-dimensional scheme, and is distinct from writing or notation.

I'll give you an example. This would mean that photos of cheese have to be marked as nsfw for animal cruelty, but posts containing a reference to cheese does not get marked nsfw.

The post image depicts Meghan Kelly speaking to a podcast. The post image depicts JD Vance giving a speech to a crowd. The post image does not depict anything else.

I understand that image has the banned r-word, this could easily be covered up in an image editor, similar to how the website automatically replaces banned word with "removed".

Can you please change the site rules to match what you are saying? It is confusing to me that you are enforcing the rules in a way that is not written. It could also be confusing to other users of the website and probably users of other lemmy instances.

You issued a punishment to me for your enforcement of a rule that is not written in the way that you enforced it. Can you please change the rule so people in the future aren't subjected to the same situation? Perhaps a rule should say "All references to sexual assault must be marked as nsfw" if that is what you enforce. You could make it into a slop comm exclusive rule. Or you could make the whole slop comm marked as nsfw since the slop comm primarily showcases triggering content. Any of these things would make your enforcement less confusing.
