This is gonna piss some people (men) off, I can already tell...

This is an excellent point and I think it demonstrates really well what people mean by "all men"

Even tho I love men as much as the next straight girl...bear for me, please

it isnt all men bc they would or wouldnt do something. its all men bc if they chose to do something or avoid doing something as the post states, they wouldnt be held accountable in any meaningful way by anyone. they might get raise, promotions, whatever for such behavior more often than accountability.

the reason its not all women isnt bc women cant do bad things. the reason is who gets away with it or gets advantages for it

statements like these arent a competition of what gender or group can have the most bad people. its who society allows the most to be bad

ik it makes people feel attacked to hear such statements like "all men". but against a group that is advantaged by society, its hard for us minorities to really hurt them using these statements. and it makes us be wary and remember to be wary around men. again not bc all men are all bad, but because if they are, there's nothing to be done about it. all we can do in an oppressed society is remember to be wary

This is...a much better way of putting it than I did, with this meme. Honestly this whole post was such a mistake. But...thanks for that. I agree with you ❤️

No, the post wasn't a mistake. Things like this need to be talked about, even if we don't agree 100% with how it's phrased. Only through dialogue can new opinions be formed.

And I get why you say stuff... I can't help that it hits the wrong way for me, even though I totally agree with your base point.

You might be one of the most respectable people I've ever argued with (on the internet). I'm glad the comment I replied to was yours ❤️

Thank you, and I appreciate your posts, even though I can't relate to many of them. I get it.

I think the core problem of the meme itself is how simplistic it is. Our society has unfortunately turned everything into a soundbite that's gone in seconds, and it makes discussion difficult to focus on, and also alienates those who either misunderstand or get the wrong message.

And despite what others say, that's not trying to derail the main topic, I think it's part of it.

Memes do have their place, of course. Sometimes you need something short, and when it's relatable to most everyone, it's popular. When it hits nerves, you get reactions in different directions. But I've always said the best serious discussions are in the non-serious forums. Somehow they spark topics while actual serious posts get overlooked.

  • the post is simplistic but it is trying to say something similar. my knee jerk reaction was also to criticize the post but i think its best to figure out the context and try to see where someone's coming. much of social media's arbitrary limitations has made communicating difficult things like these harder. communities therefore end up devolving into not understanding each other or contexts. maybe with things like fediverse this changes
