It's genuinely insane that anyone is allowed to put that on a road

I personally know a guy who owns one of these things. He's a mid-70s white guy who manages money. He lives in Washington DC. It's the ugliest fucking car I've ever seen.

Amazing. You can fit soooo many groceries in that after yoga class.

Looks like both yours and OP's image are from here: apocalypse6x6.com

Oh I love this. So many parts so exposed, if someone carried a grudge they'd just take a cordless angle grinder to it and it'd be disabled without you even noticing until you try to drive it away. Shit, you could just cut into the engine block sooo easily.

What the fuck are those actually supposed to be good for?

Why though. What's even the utility of something like this?

Surely, surely... the inconvenience and cost of having something like this in your life must outweigh that of renting a trailer for those off times when you need to haul something.

That thing just looks so stupid and huge and bad.

Car guy here, let me explain!

Nah I'm just fucking with you, I don't have an explanation. This doesn't look fun to drive on roads and despite having more ground clearance than something like a Toyota RAV4 and 6 wheel drive and everything, I wouldn't take it off road either. So much distance between the first and second axle. Damn thing looks like it could bend pretty easily if you drive it the way one ought to drive an off-road vehicle with a Hellcat engine: Like a trophy truck. Because trophy trucks are built to take that beating and this is almost certainly not. So you can crawl slowly with your 900 horsepower tuned Hellcat and watch some dude in a Wrangler pass you at a fifth of the price and a third of the engine size because smaller and lighter is an advantage when going off road over heavy and clumsy usually.

I put aside my dislike for trucks that are used for commutes or even less than that but bpy, is that an ugly disfigured design, lacking any kind of proper proportions.

Luckily that Compensator 9000 is certainly not street legal in the EU.

The main differences that in the EU, if something is not legal, companies are not allowed to sell it.

Must be nice, lol. Unfortunately, in the US, most rules around the road legality of a vehicle are enforced during inspections, which not every state has. Even the states that have them have a really low cost on the inspection, so mechanics who do them are incentivized to just rubber stamp them.

Other than that, lots of problems are considered a "secondary offense", which means you won't be pulled over for it, but you can be ticketed for it if you are pulled over for another reason. Broadly, I dont think that's necessarily a bad policy, but it does have the effect where they end up being effectively unenforced unless the cop has a reason to want to hit you with the book.

In the EU enforcement of traffic rules is a matter of member states, but many rules are codified on EU level, at least for what is street legal. That abomination above violates the common rules already quite clearly. It is thinkable that one can grey import individual cars and get a custom license for that but even than some modifications will be required, but that depends on the local authorities. In any case it must be hard or expensive as you basically don't see that kind of nonsense on the streets.

If you are seen driving an obviously non-street legal car and can't come up with papers to the contrary your vehicle gets immediately grounded, towed and you can call a taxi. If you are a repeat offender chances are you could lose your drivers license and when you are driving without one consequences can get much worse.

But hey, you can still get an Aixam for your mobility needs without a drivers license: https://www.aixam.com/en/ They even sell "Crossovers" for those with increased compensation needs.

Are RVs illegal in the EU? This doesn't look bigger than those, just dumber.

There are likely numerous things that make this hard to get street legal. The one I am pretty certain are the tires extending beyond the anyway entirely dysfunctional (non street legal) fenders. This is horrendously dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists.
