Wow. #Helldivers2
This is what happens when you prioritize kicking out the handful of people who use mods over addressing complaints.

Meh I don't see this campaign holding. Like sorry for not liking mods that do qualify as cheating

I mean, you're very within your right to dislike it, but how do people customizing the experience to their taste mainly in solo and private lobbies affect you in a PvE game ? I must admit I'm skeptical about arrowhead on this one, even though I play vanilla, a lot if my friends with more playtime had made the jump to UI and quality of life mods, sometimes custom difficulties too...

well as an example back in Year 1 we had a sample collection MO that some cheaters managed to fake finishing. While that particular cheat was resolved it does show a problem in having mods that are themselves cheats.

look I am not saying that improvement to this game are not needed, just that this is an online live service game where how we play does effect the campaign and story.

Think it like you and a group of friends playing a TTRPG but you decided to use weighted dice that improve your odds

Well it's funny you mention ttrpg, because most of these work through a strong interaction between all players, GM included. Thus, what matters is what is considered fun by everyone at the table, and if one person having a weighted dice somehow makes sense, the right table will allow it.

Anyway, this is secondary, the point is that the pros and con balance in this is not in the favour of arrowhead here, they "outlawed" about everything from the get go, through the questionable change of anti cheat. I definitely agree with your example of the collect mission that got cheated through, but they could have used inspiration from other titles, from lobby browser allowing mods or not, even excluding those with flagged mod from interacting in the global campaign. They could have reached the modders of the most endorsed mods, worked with them somehow. They could even have made the mod support official and integrated, thus having stronger overview of who plays with what, with strong filtering. I'm thinking of Deep Rock Galactic here for example.

I'm just saying than in a normal PvE, apart from the economic side, you can't really "cheat", as in you are not impacting others. Cooperative PvE games only have to handle how players are able to team up or not regarding their preferences (kind of like finding the tight table for a ttrpg), and there are many ways of doing so, that arrowhead has not yet shown interest towards

They could but in all likelihood we would then run into another mass negative campaign with players who mod feeling they are being discriminated in no longer counting as contribution and thus in turn no longer being rewarded for taking part in the Galactic Campaign.

but thus isn't a standard PvE game. it is a PvE game with a galactic campaign system where player involvement affects his the campaign plays out
