On this day in 1838, the first major group of Cherokee, more than 12,000 people, were forced out of Tennessee, traveling westward from the town of Red Clay. A Choctaw leader called the forced deportations "a trail of tears and death".

The Trail of Tears was the cumulative result of a series of forced relocations of approximately 60,000-100,000 Native Americans in the United States from their ancestral homelands in the southeast to areas west of the Mississippi River that had been designated as "Indian Territory".

In 1837-38, President Martin Van Buren allowed Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama, using an armed force of 7,000 people, to relocate about 13,000 Cherokees to Cleveland, Tennessee. On October 1st, 1838, the first major group of Cherokee, more than 12,000 people in hundreds of covered wagons, were forced out of Tennessee, traveling westward from the town of Red Clay.

Taking the journey through an unusually cold winter, they suffered terribly from exposure, disease, and starvation, killing several thousand people while en route to their new designated reserve. They were also attacked by locals and economically exploited - starving Indians were charged a dollar a head, equal to $24.01 today, to cross the Ohio River, which typically charged twelve cents, equal to $2.88 today.

I hope you nerds have a good month of October cuddle

What is the maximum amount of seconds they can go without congratulating themselves on how enlightened they are for putting "hitler bad" in their history books?

Hitler bad but colonization good, amazing even. The white supremacist rhetoric has grown exponentially in recent years that even so called teachers on the left parrot it. "Africans sold their own" "most europeans came in peace" and such.

Hitler bad (because he targeted other whites)

The tweet about Hitler being Nazi Jesus who died for Europe’s sins is 100% correct, and all of Western Europe loves him for giving them the opportunity to play the victim in world history

While France was busy cosplaying as the symbol of liberty and resistance they were at the same time brutalizing and murdering Africans. The movie Casablanca where they do a music battle with Nazis in an American’s cafe in a French settler-colony and the actors pretend to be horrified by concentration camps is the perfect encapsulation of the European zeitgeist. Also, one of the leads was literally the star of a Nazi propaganda film before the war.

And every European has some bullshit story about how their great grandpappy was a secret resistance member, because of course they do. A day in occupied France is a luxury vacation compared to a day in colonial Africa. Doesn’t stop them from turning around and lecturing Africans on the lack of Holocaust memorials in Africa.

Also the Germans were never sorry, as can be seen from polls right after the war. It was only with the need to bolster the ideological foundation for "israel," and at the direction of their new American friends, did they go into "remorse" mode and started pretending to be sad about what they did. The motivation is evident from the near-exclusive focus on Jewish victims, creation of the clean wehrmacht myth, and just outright continued usage of nazi propaganda with regards to the Soviets. If the creation and maintenance of "israel" and the postwar order was not necessary, there would be Hitler statues on every corner in Germany today.
