The US has never been allies with the CCP, they supported the KMT. The US overtly talked about using atomic weapons in the 1950s to protect Taiwan. If you're a CCP enthusiast you have a lot of talking points about western intervention into China during the century of humilation, but being shocked the US would support Taiwan all of a sudden just makes you come off as ignorant.
