All neo-liberals that supported the "moderate rebels" are directly to blame for this...

Snip:

Syria’s new Islamist government has barred women from enrolling in several university and technical programs, drawing public criticism.

The rules for the 2026-2027 academic year affect several institutions, including two universities established in July under Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

According to documents published by the Ministry of Higher Education, women are excluded from military engineering programs, as well as legal and social sciences, management, and economics at the National University for Defense Sciences. Another institution, the Syrian University for Security Sciences, reserves several programs for men, although women remain eligible to study cybersecurity.

The restrictions extend to technical institutes specializing in oil and gas, railway transport and radio and television directing. Under the previous academic year’s rules, women could still enroll in certain oil and gas programs, including accounting and precision instruments.

what is their logic behind this exception?

Material need for cybersecurity exceeds their ideological misogyny

Sure, but has Saudi Arabia of all places somehow been bucking the trend of male dominated IT fields? Are there really a substantial amount of women in Saudi cybersecurity for them to make this call?

Are they normally not more careless to shoot themselves in the foot, when they are faced with an opportunity to tamper their reactionary policies?

Is there some random essential CIA woman they can't get rid of? Why not just make an exception for her alone?

Do I have some lingering racist blind spots?

this is about Syria I believe, not Saudi Arabia. They are a newly established Al Qaeda government still in the process of 'reforming' the nation and economy inherited from the secular social liberal baathist government that existed before. Women were in the workforce, in cybersecurity. They have existing training that would be wasted otherwise. Assad's government was reasonably egalitarian and non-sectarian relative to the region, with nepotism and corruption obviously.
