Two things: 1: Jens Galsciøt is repurposing an older work. He literally just put trump hair on his old statue "Survival of the fattest".

2: He's also bad at bronzework. Like its not artistic flair, he's fucked up the fucking casting on everything he's ever made. This isnpretty galling since he does bronze casting workshops.

I get the feeling that he just wanted to express how grotesque he finds overweight people and Trump is now a convenient target that libs will clap for.

    Also, from his wiki

In 2008, Galschiøt started The Color Orange campaign against alleged violations of human rights in China. He was denied entry to Hong Kong, where he had intended to paint the Pillar of Shame orange.[3]

Galschiøt is just a guy who wants to say political stuff without much consideration for what he's saying.

Like he has an art exhibit which is a bunch fo statues of "refugees" on an actual boat that is then sailed around harbours, he has one that was just random statues of "Emaciated Africans" that he just erected on random spots around Europe, he has one that's word FUNDEMENTALISM made up of books (Supposed to be bibles and qurans), he's got one called "Unbearable" which is a bear getting impaled on... climate change?

The orange thing is "funny" because the pillars of shame was already a series of statues condemning China, so he's painting his statues orange to further condemn them.

That's like 99% of establishment artists tbh. They NEED the world to KNOW their IMPORTANT opinions on things, but they don't realise that their cushy life going to art school on daddy's money has left them utterly incapable of viewing anything from a position other than their own "let them eat cake" worldview.

Wow, you weren't kidding about the casting. Genuinely what even is that surface irregularity, is it the result of too small gas channels for such a large mass of hot bronze? I'm sure he'd tell me it's a stylistic choice, but I've seen the nightmare zone where the head of the lower figure meets the thighs of the upper and I don't fucking buy it.
