Golems, especially those made out of clay, are part of a long history of Judaism dating back to the Talmud, where Adam was described as having initially been a claybrained golem. Golems have protected Jews for generations and are a noble magical tradition, so don't equate it with the shambling undead being marketed by Altman et al.
