Not saying they should or shouldn't. Just saying that copying someone else's homework wholesale is not "innovating".

This is the way it was always done. The French paid English Gentlemen and nobility during industrialisation. Prussia had state sanctioned industry espionage. MR. Siemens himself went undercover as nobility to get information on machines.

Do you think the West invented all their solar panel tech? China is lightyears ahead.

Talking about stealing knowledge while current top Western tech is knowledge theft running on a GPU is peak cope.

No the French invented photovoltaics. Then it was an American who made the first commercial solar panel and Bell labs of the US made the modern solar panel design that we use today. China has been involved in development along the way, but they didn't start things. Their biggest contribution has been making them cheap and affordable.

China has had plenty of innovations that are incredible. Sodium Ion battery technology is largely a Chinese development with others contributing. There are plenty of things that China has made and they should be proud of. They also steal other's ideas and try to pull a "I made this" meme. That doesn't mean they are unique in this manner, though.

American AI companies are thieves, too. The entirety of AI development is bullshit made on the back of human innovation. It's an abomination. Multiple things can be true. You clearly have an agenda with your whataboutism arguments

The notion that China, or the US, or really anybody is committing theft by utilizing technological innovations, is what should be being discussed here. Individual innovations themselves were never made in a vacuum. Design, or information at large, is not something that can be privately owned. We have patents to give the right to seek super profits to the lucky individual that invents a new tech/process. An immensely lucky individual, who may or may not have actually done the labor to make the patent but is nonetheless the owner of the slip of paper, was born to live with enough resources, in the right places, and born before it was already invented, of course. The innovations that we enjoy today are a result of countless nameless people tinkering and improving, not just a few brilliantly outstanding inventors, who then somehow are a result of the success of a whole nation.

Do you think discovering the principle of something is the same as refining and mass producing it? In that case, plants beat France.

I think that all of the steps in development are important. The French discovered photovoltaics. The US produced the first commercial panel and created the modern panel. China has made panels a commodity, refined the process for producing them, and is the largest producer of solar panels in the world.

All of these things have merit.

Do you think the only thing China has done is make them cheap?

No and I never said that. I said it was their largest contribution to the technology, although I'm open to a rebuttle of information, if you have evidence to the contrary. I'm hardly an expert, but I know a good amount of solar panel history.

Maybe try not being so fucking presumptuous and hostile to everyone that presents something you don't like.

In 2025 a Chinese company broke records with its innovations in perovskite-silicon tandem solar panels.

The idea that Asians are only good at making things cheap is more Orientalism. Maybe try to not be so fucking racist?

That's it. Keep repeating I'm a racist. I'm sure eventually if you spew that enough it'll become true.

Also, perovskite-silicon tandem solar panels haven't been proven out yet outside of a lab. Looks like a promising technology, but it has high degradation compared to panels we already have and is difficult to mass manufacture still. It may become the future of solar panels. And it might not. Neat tech either way and the Chinese scientists that invented it should be proud either way.

Now you're just being racist. They're learning from other technology and then innovating it further, not just copying.

And if you don't think the other countries you listed aren't doing the same thing, you aren't thinking about this seriously.

How the actual fuck am I being racist?

China is a country. Not a race.

The idea that Asians only steal and can't invent anything is a pretty old Orientalist trope.

I don't believe what you're claiming I do. China, Japan, South Korea......all of these countries have made incredible inventions and technological achievements.

It's also very common for the Chinese government to support and foster espionage against Capitalist countries to jump start their technological development of some things.

It's also very common for corporations to steal from each other, too.

Multiple things can be true. Pointing out scummy behavior of one entity does not mean I'm a racist.

Okay, so you're merely saying that they steal, but pretending that no one else does. That's still Orientalism. There isn't a powerful country in the world that isn't engaged in industrial espionage. That's just how industry works. It doesn't make them scum.

    1. I literally said others do it too. You're arguing something I didn't say. My point is that theft without credit of someone else's work is wrong, no matter who does it, and it's never justified taking someone else's work and claiming it to be your own.
    2. I never called anyone scum. You're projecting onto me something I've never said and making assumptions about me that are false.
