For Better Or For Worse tribute-edit, by Mike Peters of "Mother Goose & Grimm," 1997.

Not sure how many here remember these. FBoFW ended about 10yrs later, after a ~30yr run. It was one of those rare-ish strips that aged the characters naturally. MG&G is still going strong.

great edit, great fourth wall break, great art style, holding the speech bubble in hand makes the joke nice and clear. my only gripe would be that it takes 3 panels of confusion before the payoff, which feels like a long stretch

    I'm a fan of tension-building, so that actually works for me. It's reasonably witty / amusing dialogue too, IMO. If it wasn't, then yeah, 3 panels would probably feel long.

    Also, I'm thinking that the authentic FBoFW typically ran 4 panels, so it's also a nod to that.

    i think if it were more clear from the humans' faces that they're perplexed and alarmed by the words coming out of their mouths, it'd work more for me. i hear your point though, it's nice to stick to an established formula, especially when you're doing something different conceptually

    Funny, they look plenty perplexed & alarmed over here compared to their normal faces, but that's as a long-time reader. I could see for less-familiar readers that they just look kind of blank-faced.

    Whatever. We each have our own lens.
