Exactly why this shit is age restricted. Hopefully by 21 you have any sense of critical thinking and self preservation and know that drugs and alcohol should be taken in moderation. If you dont know what moderation is, ask some one, or google it. Or start slow and figure out what your line is.

Be a grown up.

    Libertarian police

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.

“Bad news, detective. We got a situation.”

“What? Is the mayor trying to ban trans fats again?”

“Worse. Somebody just stole four hundred and forty-seven million dollars’ worth of bitcoins.”

The heroin needle practically fell out of my arm. “What kind of monster would do something like that? Bitcoins are the ultimate currency: virtual, anonymous, stateless. They represent true economic freedom, not subject to arbitrary manipulation by any government. Do we have any leads?”

“Not yet. But mark my words: we’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to take them down … provided someone pays us a fair market rate to do so.”

“Easy, chief,” I said. “Any rate the market offers is, by definition, fair.”

He laughed. “That’s why you’re the best I got, Lisowski. Now you get out there and find those bitcoins.”

    “Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m on it.”

I put a quarter in the siren. Ten minutes later, I was on the scene. It was a normal office building, strangled on all sides by public sidewalks. I hopped over them and went inside.

“Home Depot™ Presents the Police!®” I said, flashing my badge and my gun and a small picture of Ron Paul. “Nobody move unless you want to!” They didn’t.

“Now, which one of you punks is going to pay me to investigate this crime?” No one spoke up.

“Come on,” I said. “Don’t you all understand that the protection of private property is the foundation of all personal liberty?”

It didn’t seem like they did.

“Seriously, guys. Without a strong economic motivator, I’m just going to stand here and not solve this case. Cash is fine, but I prefer being paid in gold bullion or autographed Penn Jillette posters.”

Nothing. These people were stonewalling me. It almost seemed like they didn’t care that a fortune in computer money invented to buy drugs was missing.

I figured I could wait them out. I lit several cigarettes indoors. A pregnant lady coughed, and I told her that secondhand smoke is a myth. Just then, a man in glasses made a break for it.

“Subway™ Eat Fresh and Freeze, Scumbag!®” I yelled.

Too late. He was already out the front door. I went after him.

“Stop right there!” I yelled as I ran. He was faster than me because I always try to avoid stepping on public sidewalks. Our country needs a private-sidewalk voucher system, but, thanks to the incestuous interplay between our corrupt federal government and the public-sidewalk lobby, it will never happen.

I was losing him. “Listen, I’ll pay you to stop!” I yelled. “What would you consider an appropriate price point for stopping? I’ll offer you a thirteenth of an ounce of gold and a gently worn ‘Bob Barr ‘08’ extra-large long-sleeved men’s T-shirt!”

He turned. In his hand was a revolver that the Constitution said he had every right to own. He fired at me and missed. I pulled my own gun, put a quarter in it, and fired back. The bullet lodged in a U.S.P.S. mailbox less than a foot from his head. I shot the mailbox again, on purpose.

“All right, all right!” the man yelled, throwing down his weapon. “I give up, cop! I confess: I took the bitcoins.”

“Why’d you do it?” I asked, as I slapped a pair of Oikos™ Greek Yogurt Presents Handcuffs® on the guy.

    “Because I was afraid.”

    “Afraid?”

“Afraid of an economic future free from the pernicious meddling of central bankers,” he said. “I’m a central banker.”

I wanted to coldcock the guy. Years ago, a central banker killed my partner. Instead, I shook my head.

“Let this be a message to all your central-banker friends out on the street,” I said. “No matter how many bitcoins you steal, you’ll never take away the dream of an open society based on the principles of personal and economic freedom.”

He nodded, because he knew I was right. Then he swiped his credit card to pay me.

If the product exists specifically to fuck people up and has served that purpose for the vast majority of human history then the expectation for you to know exactly what will happen when you ingest it is completely reasonable.

I'll try for them, because i think they missed the main counterpoint:

Every single person's reaction to mind altering substances is different and unpredictable, because each person's neurochemistry is unique and not currently well-quantified. What might affect you deeply could literally have the opposite effect on me just because my brain is wired differently. This is why multiple different mind-altering substance prescriptions have to be tested to treat things like anxiety and depression. The same dose of the same strain of marijuana will have vastly different effects on even a small sample of people, and expecting someone who's trying any drug for the first time to just "google it" as a matter of policy is not just delusionally naïve, but potentially dangerous to the point of negligence.

TLDR for the longest thread I've ever been a part of: Amnesigenic comprehends precisely none of what I say, and for some reason thinks that anything that doesn't kill you is an axiomatic moral good, and that that's somehow relevant to their claim. Read on at your peril, because here be idiots. One of them is a block-headed knuckle-dragger, and the other is an idiot because he thinks that trying to respond with actual argumentation will get the other idiot to give up or actually respond with a relevant point. I'll let the reader decide which one they think I am.<\edit>

I don't give a shit about Google or whatever "save the kids" bullshit y'all are on, marijuana has been sitting firmly at a kill count of zero for the entirety of recorded history despite our best efforts to make it more potent, until that changes I will continue to not give a shit. It is the psychoactive substance least deserving of restrictive regulation, there are a million more important things to worry about.

When, precisely, did I say anything about "marijuana will kill you"? That strawman's got his stick so far up his own ass that even Tankie logic can't compare.

Your bar is "it isn't toxic enough to kill you"? Really? That's not why we regulate drugs. At all. Anxiety medications and SSRIs are regulated because they are mind-altering, and they're all required to come with warnings that fucking with the brain chemistry of children has a proven tendency of causing suicidal ideation. The reason we regulate alcohol isn't because drinking a gallon of everclear will kill you, it's because it's mind-altering, seriously affects your judgement, is highly addictive, habit-forming, and has long-lasting deleterious effects on the brains of children. Even amphetamines, which are prescribed to children for ADHD, are regulated because while they have medicinal properties for certain brain chemistries, but in others lead to addiction and other deleterious effects. Psilocybin and LSD are regulated because they are hallucinogenic. Fuck off with that "if it doesn't kill you" bullshit. If something's regulated or banned, the reason is far more likely to have fuck all to do with its LD50 than it does with the fact that "it fucks with brain chemistry in ways that are unpredictable and can have long-lasting effects from overuse".

The comment you're responding to does not contain the words "try again", learn to read. Keeping people from dying absolutely is a major reason for regulating drugs, claiming otherwise is extremely stupid on your part. Bringing up other drugs that all have far worse short and long term effects when we're discussing the only recreational substance on earth that can't possibly kill you is disingenuous cowardly bullshit.

God save me from people who lose all conversational context with only one level of abstraction. Your own first comment's claim was, and I quote: "the expectation for you to know exactly what will happen when you ingest it is completely reasonable.".

Weevil made a counterpoint, which I thought was poor.

You pointed out that their counterpoint was poor. "Try again"

I said "I'll try for them". I gave a counterpoint demonstrating that your original assertion was unfounded and the expectation is not reasonable, because each person's neurochemistry is different, and psychoactive drugs are renowned for having unpredictable effects for that reason.

Then, you pulled a non-sequitur strawman out of your ass about "kill rates"

I made the mistake of engaging with someone clearly responding in bad faith (or at least total confusion), and pointed out why the kill rate angle is also bullshit.

You claimed not to care, and that you didn't ask for any of this.

I pointed out that, in fact, you did ask for this.

Clearly you are so baked out of your gourd that you don't even remember why you commented in the first place, though I suppose I should have expected as much from your username. We done?

(If not, I am happy to provide you with the original context of why I talked about "googling it", which seemed to confuse you as well.)

    Wordy+still failed=embarassing

Your challenge was to name any way in which marijuana has changed regarding its status as an intoxicant at any point in human history, you can't do that and you know it so you're deflecting desperately to avoid admitting you're wrong. Everyone everywhere knows what marijuana does, and what it does is fuck you up without any possibility of lethal overdose or permanent damage. Other drugs are not relevant at all, every single one of them can kill you, marijuana cannot, they are entirely separate categories. Have some fucking dignity and take the L.

So, to be clear, your only complaint is that I replied to the comment where you said "try again", rather than directly to your original comment? OK, then go back and read them as if I was responding to your original comment. You said something, a person responded, and you correctly pointed out they were wrong. Told them to try again to refute your original statement. I refuted tour original statement, and if you thought I was responding directly to your rebuttal, rather than to "try again" to refute your original claim, consider that I am now informing you that my whole intent was, and always has been, to refute your original claim. I don't give a fuck about the cultivation history of hemp, and it's not where the problem lies in your original assertion. No further additions are necessary.

No, you inarticulate potato. Did you never take a secondary science course? The supposedly unchanged nature of hemp is the evidence you used to support your central claim: that it is reasonable to expect every member of the human species of any age to know precisely how marijuana will affect them. This claim is belied by the inarguable fact that mind-altering drugs (e.g. hallucinogens, psychotropics, narcotics, anxiolytics and stimulants) all have wildly varying effects on different people due to the vastly different neurochemistry of individuals, and thus you cannot predict how it will affect you until you try it, no matter how long your cultural antecedents have been toking, as I stated in my original comment. Even cannabis, which you claim has no lasting side effects, can cause long-term psychosis and significantly worsen pre-existing mental health disorders. Not often, but that it is a documented effect with even a 0.5% incidence rate is sufficient for some basic modicum of caution. You cannot know whether you will be affected until you actually try it, and while long-term use and high dosage are risk factors for the above, they are not prerequisites. Pretending like cannabis is some fucking panacea is dangerously irresponsible, and accusing anyone who points out the illogic of your repeated exaggerations and leaps of reasoning of being with DARE is so pitifully childish. Ultimately, though, I've been responding to you ever since your kill count strawman not because I think I will convince you, who have demonstrated roughly the neuroplasticity of a chunk of granite, but because if someone makes the mistake of reading this far, then they will see the complete argument, and I leave it to them to decide for themselves.

So, to put those big, scary words in simpler terms for you:

You say all people know what weed do to them.

I say people different. I say some people happy drunk or sad drunk. I say some people kill selves when on prozac. Others don't kill selves BECAUSE on prozac. Some people eat big weed gummy, enjoy. Other people eat little weed gummy, big sad, trap in body. Vomit brains out. Maybe go crazy for a couple months. No can predict.

    You is wrong.

If anyone reading this had any remaining doubt as to the precise intellectual capacity (or lack thereof) of the prior commenter, let the utter lack of reading comprehension, demonstrated perfectly in the response above, speak for itself. Nevermind that children would have access to a vending machine.

Just like they have access to scissors. Yet we teach children what danger they carry and expect them - literal humans with stunted ability to foresee consequences - to behave safely with them. Which they do with some edge cases.

Main difference between scissors and alcohol is we restrict people with said stunted ability to foresee from accessimg it, because it's use is nuanced and requires one to be fully responsible for themself. And we assume that an adult person is responsible for themself. Otherwise we ahould not sell knives, cars, allow hiking, bar windows by default...
