He said he would like to see one case of this happening... a comment would demonstrate that

No, he said he would like to see an example of an .ml user calling Putin progressive. Are you drunk?

Could we please not resort to ad hominem attacks and insults, "Nonconfrontational"? This isn't Reddit.

Logically, I don't follow where that was specifically asked, but here's a comment calling Putin's Russia progressive: https://lemmy.ml/comment/27815508

Thats not what an ad hominem is you dolt. This is also not an ad hominem. I swear to god you pseudo-intellectual wannabe smartbois are the worst thing to come out of reddit. You pick up something through cultural osmosis and then your half-baked brain slings it out whenever you feel threatened, fearful you might actually have to think for a moment, yet you never look into what the concept actually is. <- also not an ad hominem, just an insult.
If you're going to run your mouth, make sure to do basic research beforehand. <- also not an ad hominem, more of a plea.

And the comment you quoted doesnt call Putin or "Putins Russia" a progressive. It argues that the nation plays a progressive role in geopolitics today, due to it functioning as an opponent to the USA. Jesus Christ, learn basic reading comprehension.

So that's actually calling Russia a reactionary nationalist state playing a progressive role in the context of a war between the imperial global hegemony, lol.

Do you have any examples of someone calling Putin progressive or not?

As you acknowledge, it quite clearly states Putin's Russia plays a "progressive role."

I'd like you to apologize to me for calling me "drunk." It was ad hominem and has no place in discourse.

Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia bombed children's hospitals and bankrolled Trump Jr's wedding. If you and I are against imperialism, we should be against all of these things.

Progressive is an adjective in this context. Your characterization is misleading and incorrect.

OP clearly supports Putin's Russia as a perceived bullwark against NATO.

I didn't catch your apology for the ad hominem. Kindly reply herewith

Since the other replies have tried to educate you more gently, or more amusingly, let me just spell it out for you:

Pointing out that you're an idiot in the course of also attacking your argument (even doing so rudely) isn't "as hominem".

Ad hominem is when you don't engage with the argument at all, you dismiss it based on the person making it. It doesn't even have to be rude or insulting. Dennis Leary's old joke about not believing a Priest teaching sex ed at a Catholic school is an ad hominem.

"I won't engage with your argument because you're a Tankie and therefore self evidently wrong" is an ad hominem

"You're a fucking idiot whose wrong and here's all the reasons why you're wrong, you fucking idiot" is not an ad hominem, it's just being rude while actually addressing the argument made.

I hope this helps. I doubt it will.
