This feels like victim-blaming. How can you tell a significant percentage of the US that they can’t live there any more? Where are they supposed to go? Kansas?

    No it's worse than that. The insurance, when it even pays out, only pays for rebuilding there. No option to take the money and move. The only options are rebuild there or take a complete loss.

    Not enough FEMA to go around.

    They also will just move you up to a higher part of your yard if that’s all that’s needed. I had a relative that contracted for FEMA that would regularly order buildings be replaced to locations that would avoid flooding and other hazards even if it cost more.
