Having recently seen the first trilogy among Nolan's works, I wonder what opinions you hold about the movies in general. Seeing that I'm quite late to the party, I expect some strong and mature takes in the comments, but you are still free to voice any opinion you may have.

I got that he is supposed to come off inexperienced, the issue is that I'm not sure the plot of the entire movie changes much if he were removed from the events.

He never solves the riddlers riddles, he has to be told the answer (which the riddler might have told to anyone at that point). He does disarm the shooters at the very end, but he doesn't stop any killings/assassination attempt/flooding. It could be argued that maybe the politican would have been successfully killed if he didn't stop the riddlers henchmen (I don't think the shooter misses because of Batman, but can't recall). Additionally, he was the one that really set off the falcone plot point, which may have been dealt with very differently if he didn't get involved.
