[–] VinegarChunks@lemmus.org -4 points 1 day ago (6 children) TF do people expect the minority party to do to stop the party with majorities in all three branches of government? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 12 child comments replies: [–] kreskin@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago* Maybe not collaborate with fascists? Maybe give a crap about their own voters? Is that a lot to ask? permalink fedilink source parent [–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago Campaign against Trump and fascist Republicans instead of holding hands with them? Because you know, that's what opposition parties ought to do? I'm sorry to say this but Americans are brainwashed by corporate media about dEcOrUm and reaching across the aisle, because it tames the masses from mobilising and recognising that both parties are captured and strung by corporate oligarchs. At least more and more progressive Americans are waking up from the silly corporate narratives and primarying corporate Democrats with progressives. permalink fedilink source parent [–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago Use every procedural trick in the book to delay, deny, frustrate. Deny the abusive majority the semblance of normality they rely on to do business as usual. permalink fedilink source parent [–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 6 points 20 hours ago Are you kidding? Or are you just too young to remember Obama having all three branches and still completely failing to get the public healthcare policy that he'd campaigned on and had massive public mandate for? permalink fedilink source parent [–] SailorMoss@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago A war powers resolution has been passed, meaning the war in Iran is unconstitutional based on a plain face reading of the constitution that a third grader could understand. Why are democrats not suing the administration to stop the war? Why are they not making a bigger deal that that this war is unconstitutional in the media? Why are they wasting time misrepresenting Hasan Piker and undermining Abdul El-Sayed? A Senator they need if they want a majority to stop this administration. Conservative Democrats had legislative trifecta just a few years ago. Biden did not replace postmaster Dejoy despite having the authority to do so. Which has made it easier for Trump to undermine mail in ballots. They also didn't prosecute Donald Trump for inciting the January 6 insurrection. I could go on about the failures of the Biden administration and the Democrats 2021-2025... ...But long story short, Conservative Democrats had their shot, they lost. Now when we tell them to do their fucking job as an opposition party you try act like there's nothing they can do. Are you pretending there's nothing they can do because you don't understand the basic function of an opposition party in liberal democracy or because you're a fascist collaborator? permalink fedilink source parent [–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 child) Don't pretend like you don't remember the Democrats wringing their hands every time they had majorities, and saying they couldn't do anything or had to heavily compromise because of this or that single person. The last one was Joe Machin. "Oh! Guys. So sorry. We would totally help the people, but we can't do anything because of jOe mAnChIn!" They always have a scapegoat. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago My favorite was the parliamentarian. The one who is an advisor and can be overruled at any time. What can democracy do, the parliamentarian has rendered government powerless to act. *shrug permalink fedilink source parent
