I'm going to have to push back here. It's very easy to draw that conclusion. The largest push in history for data centres has been brought on by the LLM craze. What is ultimately a clever math function that works similar to an autocomplete.
Don't get me wrong, I use a local LLM for data analysis. The tech has very real uses.
The impact of data centres on both the environment, and people's well being can't be ignored.
I wouldn't refer to people with those concerns as luddites. I'd call them reasonable.
