I'm on a 3-month parental leave with my 10-month-old and I'm doing this already. It's fucking great. My wife (who makes six figures) has been so equally happy with the temporary arrangement that she has floated the idea of me (in a few years) getting the fuck out of my labor job (that is slowly destroying my body one appendage at a time) and doing this all the time.

I'm not completely against the idea, but the stigma is a lot to overcome. I don't want to be measured as worthless by everyone around me for being a stay-at-home trad dad, when I've spent my entire adult life working my ass off, managing teams, and wearing down my body.

But going for quiet walks every morning and trying my hand at writing fiction sure sounds attractive..

    1. Find a random company that no one has heard of (or make one up)
    2. Tell everyone you switched to a boring remote paper pusher job for health reasons
    3. Enjoy your dream life

    OR

    1. Fuck everyone, who cares what they think
    2. Enjoy your dream life

There's your problem right there. You need to learn to not fucking care one fucking bit what ANYONE else fucking thinks about how you and your family decide to live. They can all go FUCK themselves, and you don't have to worry about it even a little bit.

If your wife is cool with it, then create your own reality, rather than involuntarily play a role in someone else's.

People will always think some bullshit. Just let them. Who gives a fuck what they think?

If it’s best for you and your family, do it!

when it's your boss and your family and other people who have influence over your life, you tend to give a a lot of fucks about what they think.

not everyone is an atomized detached person, or has a job that isn't influenced by their personal choices.

a lot of people think a man who isn't working, and making bank while doing so, is a worthless piece of shit human being. any role where a man isn't doing both those things makes him worthless. including so called progressive anti-gender folks, also think this way.
