Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

At what point does a question become too broad and cryptic to answer?
If you think there’s something cryptic about this, it explains to me how what’s happening in the U.S. is possible.
I’m from Germany, the country where the Nazis ruled from 1933 to 1945. Everything they did was, at least in hindsight, covered by the law.
The difference from the U.S. today, however, is that the Nazis in Germany were only able to put their degenerate ideology into practice after they seized absolute power. They didn’t do that until 1933—and even then, they maintained the appearance of legality and enshrined their inhuman ideology in law.
The U.S., however, claims to be a democracy, a constitutional state, and yet it is detaining tens of thousands of people—just as the Nazis were only able to do once they had murdered hundreds of thousands of their political opponents.
That is what my question refers to.
To put it another way: When will U.S. citizens realize that their legal system primarily serves to oppress them?
I've seen this coming from the Bush 2 administration. So have a lot of other people. The parallels between Weimar Germany and the United States are blatantly obvious to anyone who knows both, which is probably more Germans than Americans.
Cant be that many of us germans because ⅓ votes for nazis AGAIN!!
Fellow German, don't cite the deep magic to me.
"When will people realise what is happening" is a very different question from "when will it happen".
Edit: lol fucked up the quote.
"But we didnt know of nothing!" They said after smelling human flesh while living around dachau, after seeing their neighbors been taken away, after using them themself to do field works or factory work. After seeing them be marched threw the streets to their slave labors.
And they'll say it again over and over until the end of time. Until all of humanity finally understood that you cant eat money, nore take it with you into death
What made you think you need to tell me this?
