I’ve been using a de-Googled Android setup and found myself running into the same issue a lot of people probably do: the privacy-first option is great right up until the everyday stuff stops working properly.

In my case, banking apps and Android Auto were the sticking points. GrapheneOS was excellent in principle, but iodéOS ended up being the more practical fit for my actual use case.

I’d be interested to hear where other people draw that line between privacy, convenience, and reliability.

Android Auto did take some setup for me, but it works just fine. It is not too much of a hassle to setup if it is installed through the GrapheneOS store. I did have to return to stock Android for a time as I could not get the GPS to work properly, but it worked for the longest time at first, and it has been working working just fine for a while now. I use Ally, DIscover, and American Express for my banking and credit card needs, and I have never even had the slightest amount of trouble doing so. My app for work has never been a problem, nor has any app ever been a problem besides Android Auto at first. I do not even use the Google Play Store; I use the Aurora Store and F-Droid.
