Hydration. Until 30 years ago, humans had no problem hydrating themselves when water was available. Note available. It’s called being thirsty. All of a sudden, you must hydrate, you must hydrate. Somehow, all the executives at all the big drink companies got together and said let’s just use the word hydration and hope for potluck on which product of ours they buy. Of course everyone jumped on the corporate bandwagon and they are now completely converted to this weird idea that humans don’t know how to hydrate when they need to so they can sell their sugar laden crap.

the problem is a sedentary lifestyle along with sugary/caffeinated beverages has lead to people consuming less water.

People working outdoors don't need to be constantly reminded to hydrate.

its office workers and suburbanites who consume soda and coffee all day that need the reminder

Whatever lifestyle one has the evolutionary urge of being thirsty does not go anywhere or be subsided. If so, please show me the medical research in regards to this.

Edit: and how in the universe are these office workers and sedentary people drinking a drink ie pop etc That are comprised of 95% water with stuff just added are not getting hydrated. Jeez Louise, some people please think.

Edit edit: if they drink a diuretic like coffee, well then guess what, when your water gets depleted? Your body would kick in and say I’m thirsty. Thus the cycle is complete.

They used animal skins. Easy peasy. I can tell you what they did not use, cheap aluminum tins with a brand name on them so you spend an extra $50 for the brand name.

I’m thinking how the fuck people hucked across western Utah in 1850 in the middle of summer without a reliable water source

Canteens, animal skin water carriers, maybe water barrels for people with wagons. They had to plan routes with available water from springs and rivers frequently enough that they could carry enough with them in between sources.
