For sure. A whopping problem with the States is that the semi-recent period of relative greatness (~mid 30's to ~mid 70's) caused masses of Americans to buy all the way in to a national narrative, i.e. an American mythology. So too many of us turned off our brains, assumed that our rights were automatic, got distracted by petty issues the right likes to push, and meanwhile let capitalism capture most of our important government entities, little by little.
Pretty much the classic tale of a peoples who bought in to their own self-importance, and wound up getting knocked all the way down. Except this time it plays out in a late-stage capitalist, digital age, globally-connected world. Interesting times, indeed.
