Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Lewis Rossman.
I have no valid reason for this. I fundamentally agree with the guy on most things for the dozen or so vids I have seen. Right to repair etc etc.
But something about him just comes across as entitled and annoying. Like even if I knew the was right I would want to disagree with him.
I agree with 99% of everything he's said in the videos I've watched, but the whole thing with that company doing fake "open source" stuff is weird.
I like him and he's doing great things, but he does come off as an astounding arrogant asshole. I also don't keep up... Watching randomly.
I refer to him now and back when it was technical videos.
It really depends on the topic. He's very self-assured, rightfully so on most subjects he addresses, but some of his politics and commentary on certain subjects I don't vibe with. Still watch his stuff occasionally but only on tech that interests me.
I love what he's doing, I love that he exists, I do have a hard time listening to him angrily agree with me for 30 minutes straight on youtube.
I used to just have him on the background talking to the camera when he was fixing a laptop. Then would listen to his random takes on stuff and then his political activism.
As much as I agree with him, I am just raged out. I can't do John Oliver, I can't do so many left-leaning ones because they clip right-wingers and I don't want to hear about how everything's getting worse ...
He's passionate and found his "calling", so yeah, zealots can be tiring. He also happens to be right, and I appreciate that he's sticking his neck out for that conviction. If he ran for national office, I'd vote for him. He's exactly the sort of bulldog we need to stir up Congress. However, unless he learned to catch flies with sugar, I don't think he'd be very effective--but, maybe he could do that.
Louis Rossman is 1000% a insufferable fucking cunt.
Just cause hes typically on the correct side of an argument and supports good things doesnt magically make his awful personality issues disappear, and his awful personality issues do matter when it comes to him wanting you to sit down for an hour and listen to him angry rant about shit.
If it were anyone but Rossman doing what Rossman does, they'd be accused of being a plant setup by the other side to make right to repair and its supporters look like unhinged assholes with his attitude and how he acts. (Edit. I am NOT saying thats what Rossman is, to be clear. I'm just saying if someone less known pulled the same shtick that is how it would come across)
More people need to be annoying for right things if they have done all things right that also happens to help everyone
I also asked a question, "do I constantly want depressing or aggressive videos in my feed everyday?" He does good work but it's always combative towards bad companies which isn't necessarily bad but it's tiring when it's everyday.
Yep that's it. He's perfect for what he does but I don't need to follow him because it's bad for my brain.
I think you just hit what I subconsciously hated. It's this underlying aggressive position and combative approach that I just don't enjoy listening to. Like sure, John Deer or whoever is in the shit books this week deserves it, but I don't want those vibes on my weekend.
Louis is fine and does the good political work, no one else is willing to do. But I already am a pirate and against copyright and patents - which is way more anti-corporations than his stance. So there is no point in watching him preach.
I still watch his other videos when I stumble upon them. He just doesn't do them that often anymore.
I'm fairly certain I could never work with or interact with him in person. I don't think he's a bad person, but I think his political stance and personality would clash with mine really badly.
I still watch some of his videos and support what he does.
Strongly agree with this one. He turned into a professional complainer.
For me the videos were just all the same.
It became repetitive.
Absolutely love what he's doing, though. Just bored watching his videos
