i'm a silly old person so I can actually remember when Muslim Americans were considered one of the most solidly Republican voting blocks in the whole country. I guess that had to do with the prevalence of Muslim small business owners, I think Michigan in particular had one of the most tightly knit communities of Muslim business people. This was pre-9/11 by the way. I do remember when conservatives were neutral to positive on Muslim communities. I even remember when my Lebanese neighbors were considered white people.

After 9/11 the Republican party made Islamophobia their entire platform, whereas the Democrats offered slightly less Islamophobia. The ongoing Democrat support for genocide in Palestine seems to have completely eroded whatever remained of Muslim support for Democrats, so now I don't even know how voting will go. I remember Michigan had the whole Unaffiliated movement.

They recently got Abdul Al Sayed for Democrat candidate which is a large part of why the Republicans (and CNNocrats) are losing their minds over Michigan now
