How hot was it there? Looks more like drought. This spring/early summer was very dry. Had some rain in july but nothing that reached deeper into the soil.

Aren't (big) heatwaves usually followed by droughts?

I mean, huge high-pressure fronts tend to chase away clouds and thereby rain, causing a stark rise in temperature, and ultimately resulting in a drought.

Mind you, this is off the top of my head, so feel free to correct me.
