raises hand

I may be obnoxious on Hexbear, but you guys see a side of me I keep hidden from most people

Unfortunately I've recently started being medicated for ADHD and while holy shit it has changed my life for the better, it's also removed a lot of my filter, so I'm having to learn to be comfortable with being myself and not everyone liking that

Memories of being a kid and my mum telling me to shut up cos i talk too much and slowly being conditioned into someone that never says anything. Then get the opposite problem of people criticising my lack of saying anything and it makes me wish every NT on the planet would explode so I can spend 1 minute of my life not being ruthlessly judged for every single action.

I am too learning to be ok that not everyone will like my real self but this guy at work i literally live rent free in his head and i seem to have people who like viscerally hate me and i didnt really do anything other than exist. Its perturbing to say the least.

With the other adhders i do meet irl conversations with them will ever increase in volume until we’re basically yelling at each other and then once done (after like 4 straight hours) will feel very good and basically fall in love. Its such a consistent handshake its actually kind of scary

God I feel this too

Startin to feel like it might be a widespread experience to be silent and reserved irl and loud as hell (positive connotation) online.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

Oh yeah, a lot of people do not actually like to hear it as it is

This is why I keep to my immediate family and friends

Extended family did not like to hear about how shitty they were

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago

For me it's less that, and more that if I don't stop myself I get too intensely hyperfixated on a certain topic and people can find that overwhelming or weird.

Like Dort we just said hello, we don't need to know the entire history of beekeeping and how you relate to bees on an emotional level

Also I suck at knowing when a conversation is over

Also I talk about myself too much

Tell us about the bees!

This is a bee that landed on me in vietnam.

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

That looks like a wasp! Maybe a paper wasp or a mud daubler of some kind

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 14 points 3 days ago

Wasps get such a bad reputation, its always like "I destroyed this wasps home and killed its family, but it stung me, I am the victim".

I've literally had wasps hang out for hours as I dug a big hole less than a foot from its nest and not get aggro until I accidentally flung dirt on its nest.

People are amazed when i tell them about the anti-wasp infrastructure i have installed; get this, its a big-ass garden! There are so many species of bees and wasps that hang out in the garden and, even when I'm working in it, they really couldn't care less about me.

I wonder if there's some correlation between denying a being food and housing and treating it with violence on sight, and it being in a constant state of fight or flight thonk-cri

This is a bee that landed on bee in beeietnam.

Could she be an asian giant hornet? I'm friendly to hornets too and won't kill em but I think you're exceedingly brave for getting this photo.

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 7 points 3 days ago

Nah, Giant Asian Hornets have more stripes.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

Ah, well, i love bees and i would love to hear all about them and your relationship with them

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

I kinda miss being a beekeeper, if I had even a little space I'd consider setting up a hive or two as a hobby. Alas I'm in an apartment & none of my family will let me set up a hive in their backyards

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 5 points 3 days ago

How many houseplants do you need to sustain a hive?

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

More than fit in my apartment, bees search a wide area around their hives (~2 miles if I'm remembering right) for plants to harvest nectar/pollen from. If I had a backyard I could do some urban beekeeping especially since I'm near some nice green space but I feel like my building would have something to say if I set up a hive on my balcony (though I have been tempted)

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 8 points 3 days ago

Disguised bee house as bird house.

[-] haxboar@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

Hey, I just started ADHD meds myself! I'm glad it's working for you!

It's been weird seeing my brain focus on things, and stop bouncing around all the time.

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It actually made me angry that I couldn't afford it sooner (because up until recently you had to see a psych every time you needed a script and thats very expensive), because I had no idea just how much easier things are when you don't have to battle exectutive dysfunction. Like holy shit you mean this is how other people can just get things done? Why did I have to do things the hard way for so long?

I have gotten so much shit done, even simple things like self care and eating right are so much easier now.

[-] Test_Tickles@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Which meds/dosage if you don’t mind me asking?

[-] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Oh uh I don't see why not I guess, Vyvance 40mg

[-] Test_Tickles@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago

Cheers! I'm glad to hear it works for you. I tried Ritalin or Adderall at one point in my life but really didn't like the side effects though something to help me focus would be nice.

What is Neurodivergence?

It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc

“neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”

So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned

Rules

1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them

2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence

2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals

3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.

3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith

4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!
