Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it's one of the best things I've ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.

For the past few months I'd been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I'd blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.

Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I'd had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.

The breaking point was seeing some dude post a "meme" implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you're saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell...

Difference is people in the US are generally not defending negative US history or actions, whereas .ml/hex never admit to Russian or Chinese issues and their entire argument is “No, u suck, imperialist west” and inject it everywhere unsolicited.

They will tell you that this is because you're brainwashed by your evil imperialist country that it blinds you into believing that the whole world is bad like they are.

You're right though anyone I know from USA on here will be very quick to tell you how fucked up it is we are supporting Israel and how fucked up slavery was and how fucked up what we did to the Native Americans was

I've never seen a single one of the "tankies" (that you would recognize by name for their pro NK stances and whatnot) ever admit to any wrongdoing by any of the countries they glorify. Not a single fucking one.

The Soviet Famine, the "Arduous March", the " great leap forward" (Mao killed the most people in history more than the Nazi Holocaust, the Stalin Famine, the arduous march, Khmer Rogue etc.) They don't ever have anything negative to say about those things. It was all external factors, weather, and misinformation by the west!

And that is why no one other then them and their devoted followers will ever listen to them. If they are incapable of admitting those things are wrong they are incapable of speaking the truth.

Yeah, I won't even waste my time arguing, I just ask that you understand that it's possible for people to disagree with this, as absurd as it may sound to you. I don't think you're acting on bad faith but you have no idea how absurd this claim sounds to me, if you want to assume bad faith that's your problem.

But the point of my comment is: I can block lemmy.world if it bothers me enough, or I can not block it if it doesn't bother me enough. And I don't need to make a whole rant about it. That's immature as fuck.
