"created" and "in mainstream use" are two different things.. composite video has been around for a very long time, but composite video on consumer electronics really only started to get popular maybe starting in the late-80's. I worked at a Radio Shack in the early 00's and was still explaining to people how to use it because their old VCR only had coax and they used it on channel 3 or 4.
