Does it help to insulate them? My kitchen tap takes about 40 seconds to warm up, 40 seconds of hot water I'm paying for and not getting.
It does not speed up getting hot water, it reduces losses. Quite a bit (nearly all of it) runs under the floors through unheated area's. Think 6..15 degrees Celsius. Over 10 Meters (probably more) it will cool down quite a bit before hitting the tap and you want it hot (over 68 celsius or cold, below 18) to avoid the legionella bacteria. The tap is designed to avoid accidental burn by hot water
Yeah, it's quite a long run under most of the length of this row of condominiums... there's nothing to be done, I guess, unless I want to get one of those bitchin' Calaphon gas heaters I saw in South America and throw it in the pantry. Those things are just so beautiful to watch when someone starts a shower.
