That's a weird coincidence - I literally read that exact passage to my kids a few days ago!
The listener replies by saying it should have said 'Thou shalt not make a machine to counterfeit a human mind' which I think is doubly relevant these days.
Counterfeit is just covering one of the many uses of an AGI by those who control them. It still leaves open the other ways they were used against people in the Dune universe, so their absolutism of "no thinking machines, period" is right for what happened to them.
I meant these days, not in the Dune universe. Stuff like people passing AI-generated stuff as human-generated, and businesses replacing workers with AI.
Neural networks have existed for decades, but it's only in the last few years have companies started replacing people with the technology en masse.
That's because the ability to barf out language that sounds reasonably like a person might have written it is relatively new. It makes it easier to fool the non-technical and the idiots that it's actually AI in the sci-fi sense. Makes for really good marketing to fools with your money.
I don't think so. I think that decades of science fiction writers who needed villains for their stories has warped generations about how we should interact with technology. Kind of like how old school movies would only cast villains as foreigners or dress them in black. This is a manipulation that is subtle but still a manipulation.
Well since you're obviously passing off so much of your thinking to AI, are you sure that's even your opinion?
Let's not be mean to strangers on the internet, eh?
When people are arguing in favor of the downfall of civilization, I'll be as mean as I like, thank you very much. Go tone-police somewhere else.
Nobody here is arguing in favour of the downfall of civilisation.
Look, if you want to act like a dick towards strangers then Twitter/X is right across the hall. You'll have a field day.
Otherwise, maybe try to stop projecting and start acting a bit more civilly? You know, like we do in civilisations.
Or maybe I'll just block your nanny ass. If you won't take your tone policing somewhere else, well, I'll just move it for you. Goodbye.
You do what you've got to do.
Frankly I'm a little bemused by you framing being expected to behave like a well-adjusted adult as "tone policing". Then again, your opening gambit was essentially a "well if you love it so much why don't you marry it?" kind of reply, so maybe I should have realised it was a non-starter...
I won't say I'll miss further interactions with you, but I'll wish you well nonetheless.
