For me, distance to work is important, I don't want to spend time in the areas where I work when I am off work.
Also, while I love working in the city center, I absolutely don't want to live there.
It's certainly your right to feel this way. But interesting to wonder why you feel like you need work and home too be a whole hour commute apart.
They don't have to be a whole hour apart, 30 min would be fine, it is just that when I bought my apartment, the best one I could find for me was located a fair bit outside the city.
