Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

MODERATORS
I see that moving to KDE was a wise decision. This is going to tear the Xfce project apart.
KDE unfortunately is also accepting AI/LLM code contributions, as is LXQt and Gnome.
This news has made me realize it's not going to be trivial to avoid AI slop FLOSS projects, we're likely going to need to collectively collate a list of known anti-AI projects, and probe projects that haven't taken a public stance to find out what's safe and what's not.
Good starting point would be to focus on projects hosted on codeberg. Their official policy since recently is human-first. (The rules are detailed though, I don't want to over-simplify. But very reasonable and vibe-coded stuff is definitely out of the window.)
