Xorg servers starting from version 1.7 have a feature called "multi-pointer". Basically it allows to have multiple mouse cursors (each with its own keyboard focus) on the screen and control them with separate physical input devices

1.7 was released in 2009.

Really old software had feature long time ago, new software has it now. Somebody 17 years from now is going to respond to post about multiple cursor support in nowaydudeland with "Wayland got had this in 2026"

And another person will respond "but we're not talking about Wayland..."
