That still pisses me off. I get the reference, and it's still stupid. Then again so are the humans in that movie. They just had to nudge an asteroid so that it hit the area, then moved in with no local xenos or wildlife anywhere nearby. Nobody ever should have had to fight a single space smurf. I hate poorly written villains.
It is worse than that.
Assuming similar solar system formation physics as ours, there would have been plenty of unobtanium in the remnants from the forming of their solar system.
They shouldn't have even needed to land.
Scientists are nerds, if a scientist in real life discovered a naturally occurring room temperature superconductor they would absolutely call it something nerdy like unobtanium.
