Average users are fine on Linux. I set up my parents on it and they are able to launch their browser, email, etc and not bother with terminal. They didn't have trouble adjusting from Windows and MacOS to Linux.

Only ones who have trouble are those who rely on specific software for work like Adobe or gamers who can't go without certain Windows only games. But, average non gamer and non professional who wants to just use it for basic tasks are fine.

And depending on the distro like ones with long term support the UI isn't going to keep changing up on them.
