I went searching for the article I read after posting my comment. Either I misread a headline, or misremembered details. Regardless, I was plain wrong and deleted my comment
You probably saw something which said the key can't be remapped, which is likely to be true but only because windows won't let you, rather than being any kind of technical problem
Supposedly the key sends weird signals that make it harder to use like any other key. Where a normal key would send KeyDown when pressed and KeyUp when released it sends a bunch of KeyDown and KeyUp when pressed and nothing when it's released.
