What is happening in India with the protests? (lemmy.zip)

I'm seeing a lot of stories about protests in India including a march on parliament. Than the arrest of the opposition leader and another influential person on hunger strike.

But what is unclear is what is the background? And are they separate incidents or are they linked? If someone on the ground in India could detail what is happening, that would be great.

Fuck modi and fuck hindu nationalism.... It is so hard to get real info on some areas of the world.
