There was a time when buying that 5$ key was less hassle than trying to get some kms to run. Nowadays you just search "get activated win" if you forget the site's name and their solution works every time

    So I installed Windows 10 IOT LTSC on a PC I'm giving to a friend. It's not activated, of course. Anything that friend needs to be concerned about if it's not activated? They intend to use it for school and gaming.

    Give them Linux or install win11 home unlicensed and let them deal with it.

    If it’s a Dell OEM machine then there’s a license built into the bios.

    Giving someone Win10 ltsc is asking for trouble.

    afaik the only things is the desktop watermark and being locked-out of the personalization in 'settings', so stuck with default theme, wallpaper, and so on.

    registry edits or using a pre-configured custom installer can get around some (or all?) of these items.

    updates will still be offered and installed.

    You can activate it for free using something like this (use scripts from the internet at your own risk). I ran a script featured in a LTT video on my partner's computer and never had a problem.

    Page does not load, are you advising people to use scripts from the internet you yourself do not trust? Do you say install at your own risk just it's because it's the correct thing to do or because you installed something similar and now you advise other people to do the same without having checked what the script does?

    If it's the latter, please do not provide such advice.
