This comment made me think hard. The chart didn't seem dishonest to me: the Y axis font size is big enough, and abbreviating it seemed reasonable as a way of making more space to show the shape.

But it's interesting to think about in the context of US education standards continuing to plummet: maybe design choices which would have been valid in, say, the 70s would end up being misleading now.
