Wtf is the deal with AerynOS (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I've just been running it for a couple of days on my gaming setup and it's so good.

It's rolling release with a role back function to a previous state that is 100x snappier, more organic and less awkward then all the immutable distros and atomic desktops I tried !?

It seems totally independent and made by a small team.

Why is nobody talking about it?!!

I am still genuinly looking for whats the catch?! Please someone tell me!

It's only rank 30 on distrowatch, I hadn't even heard of it until recently.

Is it just because the branding isn't the best?

Granted it was kind of awkward to install especially with encryption but arch was also awkward to install for a while and people still talked about it.

I just wanna make sure that everyone isn't sleeping on this because I am genuinely confused.

I feel like I am living the distro hoppers dream where you stumble over a random distro and it's actually better then everything you tried before xD.

Ikey has a tendency to abandon his projects. Solus was good when he started it, it barely survived a few restructures after he left, but it was quickly getting outpaced by other distros anyway.

If this one suits you, that's great, and independent community distros can be cool.

Ikey has already left this project, if I understand correctly. Possibly due to issues in his personal life. The project seems to be going on ahead regardless, and his departure wasn't as critical as when he left Solus. Solus themselves are waiting for the AerynOS tooling to mature and then they'll migrate their distro to use those too.

AerynOS is still in alpha though, and not really ready for daily use. I'm glad to hear OP has had a positive experience, but the OS isn't something I'd recommend for your average user yet.

I hadn't seen that. I think he started this one in 2020, is a fairly decent chunk of effort to put into something.
