Doing it yourself would mean visiting one of those build your own pc forums for help, and I think most people would rather kill themselves.

I don't think that's true. For one thing it's marketed as a living room/couch gaming "console".

For another, it's not a PC that comes with a dedicated keyboard and mouse type setup, but instead is clearly marketed as being used with a controller.

I wouldn't say Valve assume that people will switch from consoles to this hardware, but I do think it's being marketed in the same/similar niche.
