Tonight's Movie!

Part one of The Sorrow and the Pity (1969) tonight. For real, this time. Subtitle issues are sorted out. After that, Blood Debts (1985) a Filipino Death Wish (1973?) rip-off that is mostly famous for its ridiculous ending.

The Sorrow and the Pity Part One (1969)

Originally produced for French TV, this was released theatrically after the network that commissioned it realized that it makes everyone in France look like a collaborator. Oops! Marcel Ophüls interleaves interviews with citizens of the city of Clermont-Ferrand with archival footage to say something about France. If memory serves me, Part 1 is the (comparatively) more sympathetic half of the documentary. We'll see if it is.

Blood Debts (1985)

It started with theremoved of his daughter, then the killing of her boyfriend. He takes the law into his own hands and has his revenge. Branded as a vicious killer by the underworld, the syndicate blackmails him into becoming their hitman. As he gets more and more tied up in the world of drugs, prostitution and death, he decides he wants out. No one gets out of the syndicate alive. It then becomes a battle for survival, him against them in a desperate act of street warfare. His life is his prize.
