this is sad. I'm gen x, immersed in computers simce age 13, and i feel I'm no longer in a world in which i can function.
reality has moved into dystopian cyber fantasy more than even i thouht could really happen.
Right there with you. The world I grew up in from BBS's to dial up internet to gaming with friends ( that took serious work to run and connect over phone lines) to innovation after innovation that was for pure excitement and exploration and solving problems and making things easier and simpler is gone. All innovation now is solely for revenue and data consumption and exploitation of everyone and everything. I hate this new world of tech and I just want to go live in the forest and disconnect from it all. Also your handle made me think of a game I loved and haven't thought of in a very long time, Blaster Master. :)
maybe we should all find a bunch of like minded people, buy some land leave this all behind.
holup, wasn't that the premise of The Villiage? damn - no escape. the desire is real, and likely part of why i am fascinated with bushcraft and survival.
I'm sorry to say I had to look up the reference that you have to Blaster Master. I came up with this completely out of my own imagination.

I mean, LinkedIn was never really any good.
perhaps you are being sardonic and I'm not catching it but i hope you don't think this bit of absurdity was the only reason i expressed my dark, dystopian opinion of the current "reality".
it's just another piece of reflective, chromed shit thrown on top of the mointainous pile of crap I've seen over the years. that is the thing that is behind my wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Oh, no, I agree with you. I'm also gen x, first computer was a Timex Sinclair.
All the things, Facebook, LinkedIn, everything, they aren't the problem, it's the greed and current function of commerce that ruins it all.
LinkedIn was just very obviously taken over by douchbags almost as soon as it was launched.
Wow the Timex Sinclair. Chicklet keyboard and all. That thing was a lot harder to work with than the C64 I'm sure.
Looks like we have similar takes on what's going on because I totally agree with what you just said.
