You can buy something called water soluble canvas, which has the cross stitch grid. In my country I have only found 14 count.
I recommend basting it on, and then starting in the middel so it don't shift while you stitch.
When you are done you just wash it.
I have made these pants using that
There is also something called waste canvas which you pull out after you are done stitching. But I don't have personal experience with that.
Those pants look awesome! Do you do anything special for washing them or does the stitching hold up pretty well?
I just wash them normally at 30°C and hang dry. I'm pretty sure i did the loop-start and then just weaving the thread under when ending, but a bit more than usual, but nothing else to protect it. And they look just as good now 3 years later.
For what it's worth, the waste canvas is available in other than 14-count (one of my usual suppliers has 11, 14, 15, 18) if that's a concern for you. The soluble canvas seems to be very difficult to find in other than 14-count. (I have no personal experience with either.)
Good to know, thank you!
Thanks, I'll see if I can find it! The pants look really great.
Edit: Found it. For any German on here looking for the same, it's called "wasserlösliche Stickfolie" :).
