I've used a very diluted solution of clear unscented dish soap and a spray bottle to get rid of aphids and thripes. One or two teaspoon soap in a gallon of water and a spray bottle. You can also add a couple drops of veg oil or neem oil to help it stick. It doesn't kill eggs so you need to do it every few days for a while to kill new hatches.
Thanks for the tips. Been doing that sort of stuff now and just plain water and manually wiping out the unwanted guys a few times.
But if they take over, it's fine. The balcony is a tricky spot as it gets so hot in the sun and it was very dry for weeks. Every year there are some unwanted friends when gardening.
It always makes me appreciate society, because you only get how hard and fragile it all can be when you grow food yourself.
