EB Games was acquired by GameStop and all stores renamed in 2005, in the US and Europe. EB Games only exists in Australia and Canada now.
I walked past one recently, was very surprised, I thought they all shut down a couple of years ago. They barely sell games anymore though, it's like 90% funko pops and assorted plastic bullshit.
It's funny because I have both EB Games and JB Hi-Fi (tech and small appliance shop) in the mall and if I go to JB they have a bigger range of video games at lower prices.
I haven't seen them co-inhabit the same space in years, usually if there is a JB around here they'll chase out all the other game stores since like you said, they have better range and lower prices, and sell other electronics too, they haven't just gone into full funko pop mode (or maybe they have, I haven't been in one in a few years I think).
they actually renamed them to game stop for a few years and then recently renamed them back to eb games in canada
