If you like anime, then it's worth the watch (it's just a 26 episode season and a couple movies that did kind of some retellings) just so you've watched it and you'll recognize and understand the million memes and references of it.

It's a pretty good, but somewhat dated anime. After one watching though, you really will probably have to read a summary to understand and pick up on everything you just watched. Between the translation or dubs and all the other not so obvious things going on, there's a lot of stuff in there that most people will not notice right away.
