Depends on what you like. The main character Shinji gets a lot of flak from people calling him weak and wimpy, while that is the whole point of the series: him addressing his anxiety and social problems.

I liked it a lot, since the aesthetic design of the robots and the angels is right up my alley. I also like the way every one of the characters is broken and noone is a hero.

But be warned: from the normal watching of the series you will not understand the background story. The series is about interhuman mental problems and big robots fighting big aliens is the way this series addresses it. There is a lot of techno babble speak which doesnt make sense, so don't try to understand it too much. Lean back and enjoy the big fights destroying cities and then seeing them later being rebuilt again. There is a lot of engineering porn in NGE and I enjoy it immensely.
