Imagine going through all the trouble of pulling this stunt off, just to find out that the only thing it really did for society is to give it a new meme template.

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au 35 points 2 weeks ago

Well, if you’re gonna go through all that trouble, don’t unveil the world’s most useless fucking sign. They deserve to be a meme.

[-] erusuoyera@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 weeks ago

The vapidness of the original message is what makes the memes work.

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au 4 points 2 weeks ago
[-] sbv@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 weeks ago

It was a pretty shit sign.

[-] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah... a message of peace? Super lame.

Don't they know promoting hatred and violence is what all the cool kids are into now?

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au 0 points 2 weeks ago

And what impact do you think that had? Real impact. Nothing? Is that what you guessed? Because you’re right!

[-] irish_link@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Right?!

They should post stupid stuff online for fun instead! That makes a real difference!

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well they started a meme. So I guess that’s something.

[-] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

What impact do messages of hatred towards your enemies have?

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au -3 points 2 weeks ago

What impact have messages of “love vs power” ever had on society?

I think… none.

[-] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Again, what impact do messages of hatred towards your enemies have?

It's possible flying a banner on a big building won't have any impact no matter what message you put on it. Do you really think people would change their view on any issue because of a slogan on a flag?

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au -1 points 2 weeks ago

I think people are smarter than you, yes.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I do wonder what kind of sign would be 'useful', though.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Eat at Joe's Free coffee between 9 and 11

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'd buy that for a dollar!

[-] kibblebits@quokk.au -2 points 2 weeks ago
[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago
[-] kibblebits@quokk.au -5 points 2 weeks ago

Not how that works.

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago

It was made for a proposal

[-] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago

What is the story behind this new meme format?

For anybody also having a hard time reading that partially folded flag, or finding the text within the 1000 words article, it's this:

"When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace"

Agreed with the other comment, that's the most useless sign ever.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Even more useless was celebrating their engagement that way. My wife and I just posted about it on Facebook and went out for burgers or something.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Just a couple of attention-whores doing attention-whore things.

[-] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

The whole point of social media is to be an attention whore. You're on social media right now.

[-] xzinik@feddit.cl 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

but you have to admit that while they are a new meme template, they look kinda badass

[-] the_mighty_kracken@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, but who doesn't post to Facebook occasionally?

[-] Art3mis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Their "stunt" was an ad for their netflix special. They are also sponsored by an energy drink comoany. They had the observation deck cleared and stuff.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago

But they probably had some really hot self-aggrandizing sex in jail afterwards to celebrate their engagement
